Ukraine has requested permission from the U.S. to use ATACMS missiles for the defense of the seized areas in russia's Kursk oblast. This was stated to The Washington Post by a source close to President Volodymyr Zelensky, who wished to remain anonymous, as reported by the Telegram channel "DW Main".
The long-range ATACMS missiles are planned to be used against military airfields where russian aircraft, which are bombing Ukrainian positions, are stationed.
According to Zelensky's advisor, this decision would allow Ukrainian forces to hold onto the captured areas in russia's Kursk oblast. "It will provide the necessary leverage for negotiations with russia—that's the essence", - the advisor emphasized.
