The IAEA will expand its monitoring missions in Ukraine, sending observers to infrastructure facilities that affect the safety of nuclear power plants. This was reported by Energoatom.
On Thursday, September 12, a group of IAEA experts visited an electrical substation that impacts the safety and stability of nuclear power plants. The substation was recently damaged due to a mass missile attack by the enemy.
This visit marked the beginning of implementing agreements between IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi and President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky.
In the future, IAEA monitoring missions will be present at electrical substations that are critically important for the safety of nuclear installations.
"The rashists have changed their tactics and are attacking facilities that are extremely important for the uninterrupted operation of our nuclear power plants. The occupiers are creating a threat to nuclear and radiation safety, and this is real terrorism against humanity. The entire civilized world must strongly condemn these actions and demand a stop to the attacks on substations", - said Petro Kotin, head of Energoatom.
The largest nuclear power plant in Ukraine and Europe was occupied by the russians at the beginning of the full-scale invasion. The occupiers effectively turned the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant into a military site, placing soldiers, equipment, and mining part of the territory.
