Currently, approximately 12,000 North Korean soldiers are stationed in the Kursk oblast, according to the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW) on January 16.

"The entire North Korean contingent currently located in the Kursk oblast may be killed or wounded in combat by mid-April 2025 if North Korean forces continue to suffer the current high level of losses", - the ISW noted.

Analysts estimate that North Korea has likely been sustaining approximately 92 casualties per day since joining combat operations in early December 2024.

"North Korean troops are likely to continue experiencing a higher ratio of wounded to killed, which is typical in armed conflicts. It is unclear whether the wounded North Korean soldiers will return to service, and if they do, when exactly that might occur", - the ISW added.
