There are concerns that if Ukraine cannot stop russia, escalation will begin, which could lead to a world war. President Zelensky stated this in an interview with CBS, published on April 13.
"If we don’t stand firm, he (putin) will go further. This isn’t just idle speculation; the threat is real. Putin’s ultimate goal is to restore the russian empire and reclaim territories that are now under NATO protection. Given all of this, I believe it could escalate into a world war", - Zelensky said.
He emphasized: "If that happens, there will be no safe place for anyone in this world".
The President expressed regret that russian narratives are dominating the rhetoric of the official White House. "I believe, unfortunately, that russian narratives dominate in the U.S. How can one witness our losses and our suffering, understand what the russians are doing, and still believe they’re not the aggressors, that they didn’t start this war? This shows the enormous influence of russia’s information policy on America, on American politics, and American politicians", - Zelensky stated.
He also urged Trump to come to Ukraine: "We respect your position, but please, before making any decisions, before building any negotiation plans, come and see the people, the civilians, the soldiers, the hospitals, the churches, the wounded or dead children... Come, see, and then we’ll move forward with a plan to end the war. You will understand who you’re dealing with. You will understand what putin has done".
