Ukrainian military has taken new positions in the area of Svetlodarsk arc in Donbass as a result of a counter attack provoked by the militants. This was stated by the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov, who arrived at the place of escalation and held a meeting with the military leadership of the ATO.
Being in the forefront of the 54th Brigade, which has “heroically withstood the attack of the enemy”, O.Turchynov inspected defensive positions of Ukrainian troops and discussed the situation in this front sector in the last days with the defenders. According to the Secretary of the NSDC of Ukraine, the fire of our positions with the use of artillery and mortars of heavy caliber prohibited by the Minsk agreements continuously carries out for the fourth day in a row.
“A peculiar “record” is set by the number of shells and mines applied to our positions in the area of Svetlodarsk arc - more than 800 a day”. Despite the constant fire and attempts to break through our defense, Ukrainian military courageously and professionally fulfilled their duty by stopping the enemy and causing him considerable damage”, - O.Turchynov said.
According to him, Ukrainian soldiers counterattacked, moved forward and occupied new positions “that gave them an additional advantage over the enemy in the defense sector”.
“The Armed Forces of Ukraine will continue to adequately respond to any provocations of Russian hybrid troops in all directions”, - noted the Secretary of the NSDC of Ukraine.
