Paul Manafort, Trump's former campaign chairman, was offered to surrender to the U.S. federal authorities, presumably in the case of Russian interference in the presidential elections in the United States. This is reported with reference to unnamed sources of The New York Times, - UNIAN reports.
Together with Manafort, charges will be brought against his business partner Rick Gates.
Mr. Gates is a longtime protege and junior partner of Mr. Manafort. His name appears on documents linked to companies that Manafort's firm set up in Cyprus to receive payments from politicians and business people in Eastern Europe.
Mr. Manafort had been under investigation for violations of federal tax law, money laundering and whether he appropriately disclosed his foreign lobbying. NYT reported that Manafort walked into the FBI's field office in Washington at about 8:15 a.m. with his lawyer. According to the publication, the indictment will be disclosed later on Monday.
As previously reported, the FBI is studying large money transfers from offshore companies of the former political strategist of the Party of Regions Paul Manafort to the U.S. accounts to find out whether he laundered money for the government of Ukraine since presidency of Viktor Yanukovych.
