The Prosecutor's Office of Donetsk region demands the maximum penalty of 15 years of imprisonment for the former policeman from Poltava, who killed a man at the checkpoint, - reports the press service of the regional Prosecutor's Office.
The Prosecutor's Office of Donetsk region intends to appeal the decision of the Konstantinovka city district court that sentenced the former police officer to 12 years of imprisonment for the murder of a man.
During the trial it was found that the assistant chief of the Chutovo RD MIAU in Poltava region had come for a business trip to Donetsk region to serve for the protection of public order in the ATO area and tasks defined by the Law of Ukraine "On the fight against terrorism" in late 2014.
"On December 17th, 2014 the policeman was on duty at the checkpoint, which is located in Konstantinovka, Donetsk region. After he stopped one of the cars to check documents, there was a conflict between the law enforcement officer and three car passengers. The policeman fired with Kalashnikov assault rifle, with which he killed one car passenger and wounded another one. A few days later the dead body of the passenger was found near the cemetery in Konstantinovka district of Donetsk region," - said the statement.
Prosecuting attorney proved completely the policeman’s guilt in the court, he was accused of committing a criminal offense under Part 1, Art. 115 (wilful murder), Art. 128 (reckless severe bodily harm) and Part 2 Art. 365 (abuse of power or authority) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
"Based on the severity of the crime, the Prosecutor's Office of Donetsk region is now preparing an appeal to the higher court with a demand to cancel the decision of the Konstantinovka city district court and to sentence the former policeman under this article up to 15 years of imprisonment," - said the statement.
