Due to the artillery shelling by the russian army, it will be impossible to restore the Avdiivka Coke Plant after the war, according to Yuriy Ryzhenkov, the CEO of Metinvest, in an interview with Forbes.
"The plant is under the control of the Ukrainian army. It has been repeatedly shelled by russia. They hit it with everything they have. I think it will be impossible to rebuild the plant", - said Ryzhenkov.
He noted that the plant is unlikely to need restoration to its pre-invasion state.
According to the CEO of Metinvest, the major consumers of coke from the Avdiivka Coke Plant were Azovstal and MMK named after Illich, whose restoration is not on the agenda in the near future, "until we return to Mariupol".
"The company plans to restore Azovstal, but it will be a completely different plant", - said Ryzhenkov.
In his opinion, after the war, metallurgy will remain a part of Mariupol but will no longer be its foundation.
It should be noted that due to the russian war in Ukraine, at least 70 enterprises of Rinat Akhmetov's Metinvest group suffered. On June 27, 2022, the businessman filed a lawsuit against russia with the ECHR for damage to his property in Mariupol, and in October of the same year, his enterprises began to do the same.
Forbes estimated that since the start of the full-scale war, Akhmetov has lost $8.8 billion of his fortune.
As reported, People's Deputy Musa Mahomedov stated that all civilians remaining on the territory of the Avdiivka Coke Plant have been evacuated and are now safe.
