Ukrainian illustrators Polina Doroshenko and Oksana Domashych were listed as winners at the 58th Bologna Children's Book Fair Illustrators Exhibition. The event took place within the framework of the Bologna Children's Book Fair, and the announcement was made on the fair's website, as reported by Ukrainska Pravda.
The winners were selected from 344 finalists, with an international jury choosing 78 illustrations from 79 illustrators representing 31 countries worldwide. The list also included one russian illustrator, Natalia Yaskina.
"This year, the Bologna Book Fair once again confirms its readiness to welcome the individual participation of independent publishers, writers, and artists from all countries and regions of the world who wish to creatively, peacefully, and purposefully contribute to the large publishing community, uniting children and books", - organizers said.
A total of 3,520 artists from around the world participated in the 58th Bologna Illustrators Exhibition this year, representing 81 countries and regions.
Among the Ukrainian finalists mentioned by the Chytomo publication were Oksana Domashych, Polina Doroshenko, Oksana Drachkovska, Olha Lisovska, Hrasya Oliiko, Mariia Pleshakova, Anastasiia Khyzhniak, and Olha Shtonda.
The Bologna Illustrators Exhibition was founded in 1967 and has been held annually since then. The competition showcases the latest trends in illustration and promotes new talents among artists.
The works of all artists are published in the Illustrators Annual book, a large catalog for publishers and illustrators worldwide, filled with comments from jury members. The publication is released in Italian and English, and later distributed by international specialized bookstores. It is also published in Japanese by JBBY - the Japanese Board on Books for Young People, in Korea by CCOC, and in China by Dandelion Picture Book House.
After the fair, the exhibition annually travels on international tours to museums, art galleries, and important libraries in Japan, Korea, China, and other countries.
The exhibition is organized as part of the Bologna Children's Book Fair in Italy, and this year's event is scheduled to take place from April 8 to 11.
