Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that with the support of Western countries, Ukraine could "try to end the active phase of the war by the end of this year". He said this in an interview with the BBC during his visit to the UK.
"I think that if we act in a coordinated manner and follow the format of the Peace Summit, we can end the active phase of the war. We can try to do this by the end of this year", - Zelensky said.
The peace settlement plan must be fully coordinated with Ukraine's allies so that "no one tries to change the terms after the war ends", Zelensky emphasized.
The war can be ended through a diplomatic settlement at the negotiating table if Western countries put pressure on moscow, the Ukrainian president noted.
"This does not mean that we have to reclaim all territories in battles. I believe that this can be achieved through diplomatic means", - he said, adding that weakening russia on the battlefield would put Ukraine in a stronger position at the negotiating table.
According to Zelensky, Kyiv would like to receive permission from the UK to use Western-supplied weapons for strikes on russian territory without range limitations.
"We just want to hit precisely the points from which they are shooting at us", - he said.
