The case concerning the murder of a family of nine by russian soldiers in occupied Volnovakha, the Donetsk oblast, has begun to be heard by a military court in Rostov-on-Don, russia. This was reported by "BRIEF" on July 26, citing russian media.

"The military court in Rostov-on-Don has started hearing the criminal case of the mass murder in Volnovakha (the DNR). According to the russian Investigative Committee, at the end of October 2023, russian contract soldiers Stanislav Rau and Anton Sopov shot nine members of the Kapkanets family, including children aged four and nine", - the report said.

It is noted that at the prosecutor's request, the case will be heard in a closed session.

Media reports specify that the accused, Rau, 28, was born in the village of Volchikha in the Altai Krai and lived in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. The 21-year-old Sopov is from the settlement of Yaroslavsky in the Primorsky Krai.

They killed the family with special automatic weapons, "Val" or "Vintorez", designed for silent shooting. The victims were the homeowners, 53-year-old Eduard Kapkanets and his wife Tetiana, their two adult sons and their wives, a nine-year-old granddaughter, a four-year-old grandson, and another distant relative of the homeowners, the publication writes.

Preliminary data suggest that the mass murder may have been related to the soldiers' attempt to obtain vodka.

Earlier, it was reported that occupiers shot a family of three in Kreminna, the Luhansk oblast.
