The U.S. State Department confirmed that Ukraine did not inform the U.S. in advance about the operation in Kursk, but there is "nothing unusual" about that, said State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller during a briefing, according to "Voice of America" on July 7.
“There is nothing unusual about Ukraine not informing us of their exact tactics before they are carried out. This is their war. We provide them with equipment and advice. But when it comes to day-to-day tactics, sometimes we communicate with them, sometimes we do not. And it is appropriate for them to make these decisions themselves”, - he said.
Miller added that U.S. policy regarding strikes on russian territory using American weapons has not changed, but Ukraine’s current actions do not contradict U.S. policy.
In a comment to "Voice of America", White House National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby stated that Ukrainian operations should be commented on by the Ukrainian side, and the U.S. role is to provide assistance: “Let the Ukrainians talk about their operations; that’s more appropriate... We will focus on ensuring they have what they need to defend themselves... I should also add that we will reach out to our Ukrainian colleagues to get a somewhat better understanding”.
