Finnish President Alexander Stubb is calling for the abolition of the veto power for any state and the exclusion of any member from the UN Security Council that is involved in an "illegal war", such as russia's invasion of Ukraine. He said this in an interview with Reuters, as reported by Espreso.
The UN Security Council, which consists of 5 permanent members and 10 rotating member countries, is intended to maintain global peace. However, geopolitical rivalry has led to deadlock on issues related to Ukraine and Gaza.
According to the Finnish president, he proposes increasing the number of permanent members from five to ten, adding one representative from Latin America, two from Africa, and two from Asia.
"No state should have veto power in the UN Security Council", - he said.
Stubb stated that any member of the organization engaged in an illegal war, "like the one russia is currently waging in Ukraine", should be excluded.
