Ukraine will not extend the transit agreement with russia once its term expires. Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal announced this during a joint press conference with Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, as Shmyhal reported on Telegram on October 7.

"Ukraine's strategic goal is to impose sanctions on the russian gas molecule and deprive the kremlin of revenue from hydrocarbon sales, which the aggressor uses to finance the war. We urge all European countries to fully abandon oil and gas from russia", - Shmyhal wrote.

He acknowledged the heavy dependence some countries, particularly Slovakia, have on this resource.

"However, we are counting on the gradual diversification of supply sources. At the same time, Ukraine is ready to continue fulfilling its obligations under the Association Agreement with the European Union and the Energy Charter Treaty", - Shmyhal concluded.
