Ukraine remains committed to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and has no plans to develop nuclear weapons. This was stated by the representative of Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Heorhii Tykhyi, on the social network X.
“We do not possess, are not developing, and have no intention to create nuclear weapons. Ukraine closely cooperates with the IAEA and is fully transparent for its monitoring, which rules out the use of nuclear materials for military purposes”, - emphasized the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry representative.
Earlier, several media outlets, citing the British The Times, reported that if Donald Trump, upon assuming the U.S. presidency, halts military aid to Kyiv, Ukraine could supposedly create a nuclear bomb within “a few months”. The Times referred to a document prepared for the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense by the National Institute for Strategic Studies (NISS). “The estimated amount of plutonium available to Ukraine is around 7 tons. This is enough to create hundreds of warheads with a tactical yield of several kilotons”, - the document allegedly stated.
