On Friday, November 15, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz held a conversation with the head of the kremlin, vladimir putin. This was reported by the newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung and the news agency Reuters, as cited by European Pravda.
The conversation, which was not officially disclosed by either side, "took place on Friday afternoon after extensive preparations", according to SZ. Sources from Reuters indicate that Scholz and putin spoke for about an hour.
No details of the discussion were released by either moscow or Berlin.
The last phone call between Scholz and putin occurred in December 2022, during which the German Chancellor urged the russian president to withdraw russian troops from Ukrainian territory and pursue a diplomatic resolution to the conflict.
This makes Chancellor Scholz the first head of government among Ukraine's strongest supporters to re-establish direct contact with putin.
Scholz has previously emphasized that he remains willing to talk with putin about possible solutions to end russia’s aggression against Ukraine.
