One of the two power supply lines to the occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) has been disconnected due to shelling, leaving the plant on the brink of a blackout for the second time this week. This was reported by the Ministry of Energy on Telegram on November 21.
“For the second time this week, the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant is under real threat of a blackout due to russian shelling. Today, a meeting of the IAEA Board of Governors will take place in Vienna, and we are insisting on the urgent and full implementation of the resolution to return the occupied plant under Ukraine's control. This is the only way to ensure the safe operation of the Zaporizhzhia plant”, - said Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko, as quoted in the statement.
The Ministry of Energy noted that the plant is currently connected to Ukraine’s power grid by only one transmission line, as one of the two supply lines was cut off due to enemy shelling.
“If the last line is disconnected, the Zaporizhzhia NPP will experience a complete blackout. This is a severe violation of safe operation conditions and risks leading to an accident”, - the statement said.
Energy workers will begin restoring the plant’s full power supply as soon as the security situation allows.
