The Independent International Commission of Inquiry on Ukraine, under the UN, has released findings on crimes committed by russia against Ukrainians, particularly the use of torture. This information was shared by Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets on Telegram on November 22.
"In its third report to the General Assembly, the Independent International Commission of Inquiry on Ukraine disclosed information about crimes committed by russia against Ukrainians, including torture. According to the Commission's findings, russia employed torture in all temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine as well as in detention facilities in russia investigated by the Commission", - he stated.
The Commission also created a map highlighting areas it examined where russian forces carried out acts of torture against Ukrainians during the full-scale invasion.
These areas include the Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, Donetsk, Kharkiv, Kyiv, Luhansk, Chernihiv, and Mykolaiv oblasts, as well as the Autonomous Republic of Crimea. Additionally, crimes were investigated within russia, specifically in the Belgorod, Kursk, Bryansk, Tula, Tver, Ryazan, and Volgograd oblasts, and in the Republic of Mordovia.
"This data confirms the scale of war crimes committed by russia against Ukrainians. Let me emphasize that torture constitutes a grave violation of international humanitarian law, particularly the Geneva Conventions. I hope these investigations will serve as a crucial tool in holding russia accountable!", - Lubinets added.
