Mayor of Dniprorudne, Yevhen Matveev, who was abducted by russian forces in March 2022, has died in russian captivity. This was reported by Ivan Fedorov, head of the Zaporizhzhia Oblast Military Administration, on December 4 via Telegram.
“Russian forces captured Dniprorudne in the Zaporizhzhia oblast at the end of February 2022. Shortly afterward, they took the city’s mayor, Yevhen Matveev, into captivity. He spent 2 years and 8 months in captivity and was tortured. During the latest exchange, his body was returned to Ukraine.
Yevhen Matveev was a true patriot, deeply concerned about the fate of his country and community. He always worked with and for the people, listening to and assisting everyone in need. He was resolute and vital. During the occupation, he stayed in the city with his people, doing everything possible to maintain the community's operations. He continuously informed residents about ongoing events and provided support”, - Fedorov noted.
