Negotiations are ongoing in diplomatic circles about stationing French and British troops along the line of demarcation as a security guarantee. Political expert Andriy Horodnytskyi shared this information in a comment to OstroV.
“This (the deployment of French and British troops along the line of demarcation - ed.) has indeed been under discussion for some time. Diplomatic circles are negotiating to establish such security guarantees, with military bases from countries like France and the UK stationed along the line of demarcation to protect us for a certain period. This would be a political move to signal that shooting is unacceptable since it would constitute an attack on NATO countries. We hope this happens and that Trump supports this step by France and the UK”, - he stated.
According to him, U.S. President-elect Donald Trump must approve the deployment of such a contingent.
“Everyone is waiting for Trump’s approval. No matter how much we talk about independence or the promises France made regarding sending troops, we are now discussing having these forces stationed on Ukrainian territory as a barrier. This could protect us, but we understand it would only be temporary. We need stronger security guarantees, such as NATO membership, funding, and assistance in developing our military-industrial complex. Only then can we defend ourselves much more effectively than any other country could. But no one is discussing this at the moment”, - Andriy Horodnytskyi explained.
As previously reported, Zelensky is open to having “some troops from certain countries present in Ukraine” as assistance until Ukraine becomes a NATO member.
