The Verkhovna Rada supported multiple citizenship in Ukraine, with the draft law adopted as a basis. This was reported on December 17 by the Telegram channel "Radio Svoboda".
According to MPs, suggestions and comments, particularly from the Ukrainian World Congress, must be considered before the second reading.
It is noted that the draft law on multiple citizenship was registered by the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky. Under current legislation, Ukraine does not recognize other citizenships of its citizens. In practice, however, many Ukrainians currently abroad have already obtained or plan to obtain citizenship of their host countries.
The draft also allows, for example, ethnic Ukrainians from different countries and foreigners fighting on Ukraine's side to obtain citizenship.
