The future U.S. special envoy for Ukraine and russia, Keith Kellogg (pictured), expressed confidence that U.S. President-elect Donald Trump could achieve a resolution to the war in Ukraine as early as next year and that both sides are ready for negotiations. He stated this during a broadcast on Fox Business, reports Interfax-Ukraine.
"I believe that President Trump, who made this promise (to resolve the war in Ukraine - Interfax-Ukraine) during the election campaign, will truly fulfill it. And I believe it will be accomplished this year. I think he has all the necessary tools and abilities to do so", - Kellogg said.
He also noted that both the Ukrainian and russian sides are currently ready for potential negotiations.
"Yes, absolutely. I think both sides are ready", - Kellogg said, responding to the host's question about the readiness of the parties to negotiate peace.
At the same time, he stated that, in his opinion, the killing of the head of the radiation, chemical, and biological defense forces of the russian Armed Forces, Igor Kirillov, will not affect possible negotiations.
"I don’t think it will be a deterrent", - Kellogg said.
However, he added that he does not consider such operations "a good idea".
"When you kill commanders, generals, admirals, or generals in their hometown, it kind of broadens the war, and I don’t think it’s really wise to do that. These just aren’t the rules of war you’d want to establish. Not the best idea at all, in my opinion", - he stated.
