President Joe Biden stated on December 25 that he had instructed the U.S. Department of Defense to continue delivering weapons to Ukraine at an accelerated pace. The statement was published following moscow's massive strikes on Ukraine's energy system on Wednesday morning, according to Voice of America.
"Early on Christmas morning, russia launched a series of missile and drone strikes on Ukrainian cities and critical energy infrastructure. The goal of this outrageous attack is to deprive the Ukrainian people of heat and electricity during winter and endanger the security of the energy system", - Biden's statement, released by the White House, reads.
"I want to make it clear: the Ukrainian people deserve to live in peace and security, and the United States, together with the international community, must continue to support Ukraine until it triumphs over russian aggression", - Biden added.
Recalling that "in recent months, the United States has provided Ukraine with hundreds of air defense missiles, and more are on the way", - the president stated: "I have instructed the Department of Defense to continue expedited weapons deliveries to Ukraine, and the United States will tirelessly work to strengthen Ukraine's position in defending itself against russian forces".
On the morning of December 25, russia attacked Ukraine's energy system and cities using cruise and ballistic missiles as well as drones. According to Ukrainian regional officials, at least six people were injured in Kharkiv, and one person died in the Dnipropetrovsk oblast as a result of the strikes.
