The Office of the President of Ukraine ruled out the possibility of negotiations, asserting that russia has not been forced to pay a sufficiently high price for the war. This statement was made by Mykhailo Podoliak, advisor to the head of the Presidential Office, in a comment to the BBC.
The publication highlights that Donald Trump's intentions regarding ending the war remain unclear, while Ukrainian officials dismiss any talks of pressure or suggestions that peace negotiations are inevitable.
"Many talk about negotiations, but this is an illusion. There can be no negotiation process because russia has not been made to pay a sufficiently high price for this war", - said Mykhailo Podoliak.
Discussing potential security guarantees, the advisor noted that documents like the "Budapest Memorandum" or the "Minsk Agreements" are meaningless without additional conditions for military deterrence.
"Russia must understand that as soon as it starts aggression, it will face a significant number of retaliatory strikes", - Podoliak explained.
The BBC concludes that alongside russia's significant battlefield losses (western officials estimate Moscow loses an average of 1,500 personnel daily, killed and wounded), the costs of this war could eventually force putin to the negotiating table.
"But how much more territory will Ukraine lose—and how many more people will be killed—before that moment is reached?", - the author reflects.
As previously reported, according to military analyst Oleksiy Hetman, if a negotiation process begins, there may be a cessation of hostilities, but it will not be long-lasting.
