This statement was made in response to manipulative claims by Hungary's leadership that Ukraine's decision not to extend the transit agreement with russia allegedly had a negative impact on consumer prices. The comment was published on Ukraine's Ministry of Foreign Affairs website on January 7.
"If the Hungarian side prioritizes strengthening russia over the EU and the USA, it should openly admit it. Ukraine will be ready to take Hungary's place in the EU and NATO if it chooses to vacate it in favor of membership in the CIS or CSTO", - the statement reads.
The MFA emphasized that the European Commission's statement from January 1, 2025, clearly noted that Ukraine's well-announced decision did not negatively impact the energy security of EU countries or consumer prices on the European market.
"Only two out of twenty-seven EU countries failed to handle this challenge and are now trying to shift their problems from a sick head to a healthy one. Furthermore, by irrationally attempting to maintain dependence on russia, they are also effectively hindering access to European markets for energy resources from the USA and other partners", - the Ministry added.
It should be recalled that Ukraine, in the interest of national security, halted the transit of russian gas to Europe.
