"Your political behavior is increasingly characterized by an authoritarian style, manipulation of facts, lies, attacks on and harassment of political opponents, journalists, and ordinary citizens who express disagreement with your policies. You do not shy away from targeting the families of opposition leaders, - letter to Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, signed by more than a hundred Slovak psychiatrists and psychologists. The letter was published, among other outlets, on the website dennikn.sk on January 20.
The specialists particularly point out his behavior toward Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
The letter states:
"...We are even more horrified by your foreign policy initiatives, which often directly contradict the policies of the EU and NATO, of which Slovakia is a member. In russia's war against Ukraine, you ambiguously express who the brutal aggressor is and who the defending victim is. You speak dismissively of the democratically elected president of Ukraine, who has been leading an unequal fight against occupiers for the third consecutive year. You do not hesitate to travel to moscow and shake hands with the russian president, who bears political and moral responsibility for the deaths of tens of thousands of people… It seems that the aggression and emotional volatility in your public appearances have been accentuated following the attempted assassination against you.
We assume, Mr. Prime Minister, that you are aware this is not the first letter from mental health experts to a country’s prime minister. On May 12, 1998, the overwhelming majority of participants at the Slovak Psychiatric Congress in Košice signed a letter addressed to Vladimír Mečiar... In the current political climate, we do not wish to wait for the next psychiatric congress.
We are also sending this open letter to the leadership of the Slovak Psychiatric Society, the Slovak Medical Society, and the Slovak Chamber of Psychologists. We have asked them to publish it on their websites and allow their members to comment on its content and, if they agree, join its formulations
