"I don't want to beg vladimir putin to sit down at the table (of negotiations - ed.). I want him to beg us, beg Ukraine, beg Ukraine's allies to sit down at the table and talk about how to end this war and how to solve all the problems that we have", - Polish President Andrzej Duda said on January 23 at the "Ukrainian Breakfast" in Davos, organized by the Victor Pinchuk Foundation, - Interfax-Ukraine reports.
He also noted that Ukraine is "not a local country, it is a global country, so it needs a global solution".
"Any final and peaceful solution that ends this war is in the interests of Ukraine, Poland and our part of Europe and our part of the European Union - I am now thinking about the countries of Central Europe, especially those countries that were behind the Iron Curtain for years in the Soviet zone of influence. And as you know very well, some of vladimir putin's advisers sometimes recall that this is a real zone of russian influence now, and it is russia's right to have its influence in this part of Europe, as well as in this part of the European Union", - the Polish head of state noted.
Taking this into account, he stressed the importance of the actions necessary to achieve a peaceful solution, to "put an end to this war, which guarantees Ukraine's sovereignty, independence, which guarantees the force of international law", and to "stop the imperial ambitions of the russian elites, which are now absolutely feasible".
"Russia, the russians themselves do not respect international law, because they violate international law on a daily basis... Therefore, if we talk and if we ask the question of how to encourage vladimir putin to sit down at the peace negotiating table, my answer is: we must take such decisive measures as to force putin to ask for peace talks", - Duda noted.
