A russian drone with a high-explosive warhead hit a shelter at the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant, at the site of the destroyed 4th reactor unit. President Volodymyr Zelensky announced this on February 14.
"Ukraine built this shelter together with other countries in Europe and the world, together with America—with everyone who truly seeks security for people. The only state in the world that can attack such facilities, occupy nuclear power plant territories, and engage in combat operations without any regard for consequences is today's russia. And this is a terrorist threat to the entire world. The shelter at Chornobyl NPP was damaged by this drone. The fire was extinguished. At the moment, radiation levels have not increased, and this is being constantly monitored", - Zelensky stated.
The IAEA confirmed the attack, reporting that their team heard an explosion at the Chornobyl NPP site during the night. According to the agency, the drone crashed into the roof, and there were no casualties.
IAEA chief Rafael Grossi noted that this incident, along with the recent increase in military activity around the Zaporizhzhia NPP, "highlights the ongoing risks to nuclear safety". "There is no room for complacency, and the IAEA remains on high alert", - he said.
