The office of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer confirmed on February 28 that the head of the UK government has invited leaders of several countries and international organizations to London to discuss joint actions aimed at helping Ukraine and prospects for a peaceful resolution. The meeting is scheduled for March 2, according to the Telegram channel "Radio Liberty".
Leaders of several European countries—Britain's NATO allies—have been invited to the summit. These include France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Denmark, the Netherlands, Sweden, Finland, Spain, Romania, the Czech Republic, and Turkey. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, as well as EU leaders António Costa and Ursula von der Leyen, are also expected to attend.
"The Prime Minister intends to use the summit to advance a joint European policy on Ukraine—affirming our unwavering support for ensuring a just and lasting peace that would guarantee Ukraine’s sovereignty and security in the future". - reads the statement from Downing Street.
The statement recalls that on February 27, Keir Starmer held talks in Washington with U.S. President Donald Trump. While agreeing on the need for a swift end to the war in Ukraine, the British Prime Minister emphasized that "there can be no peace that rewards the aggressor". According to Starmer, Britain is ready to participate in a peacekeeping contingent if, as a result of a peace agreement, such a force is decided to be sent to Ukraine.
