Russian citizen Yan Petrovsky (Voislav Torden) was found guilty of committing four war crimes on the territory of Ukraine, according to Western media.
The court established that he, among other things, participated in an ambush using the Ukrainian flag, which resulted in the deaths of 22 Ukrainian soldiers.
Torden was detained in Finland on July 20, 2023. He had arrived there with his wife to "resolve issues related to studies and subsequent return to russia".
Earlier, the country's Supreme Court ruled that Ukraine's request for extradition could not be granted due to "poor conditions in Ukrainian prisons" and concerns that the defendant "would not be provided with a fair trial in Ukraine".
