The U.S. has agreed with russia on "many elements" of a plan to end the war in Ukraine, but "much still needs to be discussed", said U.S. President Donald Trump. He reminded that on March 18, he will have a phone conversation with putin, which Trump, according to him, is looking forward to, writes the Telegram channel "The Moscow Times".
"Thousands of young soldiers and other people are dying. Every week brings 2,500 soldier deaths on both sides. This must stop immediately", - the White House leader wrote on the social network Truth Social.
Earlier, Trump expressed confidence that russia would agree to a temporary ceasefire. "We are approaching a very critical stage [of negotiations] and want to fully resolve the issue between russia and Ukraine. I think Ukraine wants this, I know they do. All the players want this", - said the U.S. president.
According to him, Washington must achieve a peace agreement. "That’s all I’m thinking about right now", - Trump added.
At the same time, as part of the peace settlement, the U.S. may make significant concessions to russia. According to Semafor sources, the Trump administration is considering the possibility of officially recognizing Crimea as part of russia in the event of a peace agreement. Additionally, Washington may appeal to the UN with a proposal to recognize the peninsula as russian at the international level.
As previously reported, Trump's team has stated that they are "as close as possible" to peace in Ukraine.
On the eve of the conversation, the White House warned that Trump is ready to impose sanctions on russia if the discussion with putin "does not go well".
