Once again, putin demonstrated that he does not want the war to end. This was noted in a comment to OstroV by political scientist and head of the Center for Analysis and Strategies, Ihor Chalenko.
"Despite the triumphant tone of the statements from the White House and the kremlin, as well as Trump's comments, it is clear that russia rejected the US proposal for a complete ceasefire regime, which Ukraine had previously agreed to in talks with the US delegation in Jeddah. At the same time, if we analyze the statements, we saw that the russian side used this to voice demands toward Ukraine, which align with the concept of 'demilitarization'. Russia demands the cessation of arms supplies to Ukraine, the provision of intelligence data, and the halting of mobilization", - he said.
At the same time, the political expert noted, there are positive aspects: partially, the russian side agreed with Ukraine's position on the ceasefire regime concerning energy and other infrastructure. The topic of developing stabilization conditions in the Black Sea region was also raised, which will be discussed in Saudi Arabia during the talks between the export delegations of russia and the US.
"De facto, we see a certain revival of the 'grain corridor' format, where instead of Turkey, the United States acts as the mediator. However, no decision has been made yet, and this is just what we can say now by analyzing the statements", - explained Ihor Chalenko.
According to him, putin has chosen the path of dragging out the negotiation process, during which he will extract greater concessions for himself with each round of consultations, while simultaneously continuing the active phase of military actions.
"Perhaps, with some short-term restrictions, there will be gestures of goodwill. Therefore, the situation is really complicated, as putin once again demonstrated that he does not want this war to end", - the political scientist noted.
As previously reported, Donald Trump and vladimir putin held a phone conversation on March 18. The kremlin stated that the russian side insists on halting foreign military assistance and the provision of intelligence information to Ukraine.
