“The European Union has submitted a request to obtain windfall profits totaling €2.1 billion generated by the frozen assets of the central bank of russia. This will be the second tranche of this type after the first transfer, which took place in July 2024. According to the decision of the EU Council, these funds will be directed toward strengthening Ukraine’s defense capabilities and its recovery”, - said Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal on the evening of April 9.

According to him, the funding is expected to be received approximately at the end of April and will be distributed as follows:

➡ €900 million – for the purchase of defense products from specific EU member states;

➡ €1 billion – for the purchase of products from the Ukrainian defense-industrial complex, which will significantly enhance the production capacity of the domestic defense industry;

➡ €200 million – through the Ukraine Facility for the country’s reconstruction needs.

“This is yet another confirmation of the European Union’s unwavering solidarity with Ukraine: financial, political, and defense”, - emphasized Shmyhal.
