EU Ambassador on overcoming Hungary's position: "I remain confident this will happen this year" 04/11/2025 11:01:29. Total views 133. Views today — 0.

The European Union Ambassador to Ukraine, Katarína Mathernová, in an interview with the Interfax-Ukraine news agency published on April 10, responded to a question on how to find a way to overcome Hungary’s position regarding Ukraine's accession to the EU.

"I always recall that enlargement must happen on the basis of unanimity. This is not a unique case. This is not the first time a country has faced difficulties because of the unanimity requirement. As you know, we faced it, for example, with North Macedonia. So we need to look for ways to overcome it. And I remain confident that this will happen this year. I am very optimistic", - Mathernová also said.

In 2025, Ukraine aims to open all six clusters in the EU accession negotiations on a parallel basis. Regarding the prospects for this, the EU Ambassador to Ukraine said the following: "I think we still very much stick to the plan of opening all the clusters this year. That is still our plan. Yes, the plan has obviously encountered certain difficulties. But the Commission is actively working on it. And at yesterday’s meeting, there was a lot of discussion about this. And I still remain optimistic. I believe the EU will eventually find a solution. So I hope we will be able to open the clusters and continue the integration path. But in the meantime, a lot of work needs to be done, for example reforms, technical work on both sides, etc".
