Donald Trump’s administration told G7 allies that it cannot sign a statement condemning the russian strike on Sumy, as it is “working to preserve space for peace talks”, the BBC reports, citing Bloomberg agency.

Canada, which holds the G7 presidency this year, informed allies that without US approval, issuing a statement would be impossible.

According to a draft obtained by Bloomberg News, the G7 statement was supposed to say that the attack on Sumy is proof that russia intends to continue the war.

Donald Trump, however, called the russian strike on the city of Sumy “horrifying” the day before, but did not mention russia directly. He said, “They made a mistake”, and when asked by reporters to clarify what he meant, he replied: “Ask them”. He didn’t specify who he meant, AFP reported.
