The European Commission notes that the position of the European Union regarding support for Ukraine's territorial integrity and sovereignty remains unchanged: Crimea is Ukraine. This was stated by European Commission spokesperson Guillaume Mercier, reports Interfax-Ukraine.
“We support the sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity of Ukraine. And when it comes to Crimea as well, the position is indeed clear: Crimea is Ukraine. We have said this from day one and continue to stand by it. We support the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine”, - he noted.
The spokesperson emphasized that for the EU, supporting Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity is “extremely important”.
Commenting at the request of journalists on the negotiations involving representatives of the US, Ukraine, the United Kingdom, France, and Germany taking place Wednesday in London, Mercier noted that the European Commission is in close contact with France and the United Kingdom and welcomes all efforts “that respect the UN Charter and are aimed at establishing peace in Ukraine”.
“And our diplomatic efforts continue at all levels. Our position on peace negotiations has been very clear: Ukraine must set the terms for a just and lasting peace, and there will be nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine and without the EU”, - he added.
