In 2015 the Main Directorate of National Police in Donetsk region has received more than 1,400 reports on serious criminal offenses committed on the occupied territory. It is reported by Donbass Newspaper.

Residents of the occupied settlements, who became victims of crime, continue to apply to the police force on the territory controlled by the Ukraine, express distrust to the so-called "police of the DPR" and insist that the investigation of these crimes should involve legitimate law-enforcement bodies.

According to the report, police are investigating a significant percentage of crimes committed on the occupied territory. For example, in 2015 it recorded 109 assaults related to robbery - almost 30% of the total number of robberies committed on the territory of Donetsk region. Despite the impossibility of access to the accident sites, they managed to disclose 5 of them in the course of thorough operational activities. Investigations continue on more than 300 reports of stolen vehicles - almost 40% of all the facts of thefts.

"The investigation of these offenses is complicated by the activity of illegal armed groups on the occupied territories, but each case will receive a legal treatment. The committed illegal actions are recorded and they will be the basis for further holding of offenders criminally liable," - said the statement.

According to the current legislation, criminals, who are hiding on the occupied territory, may be convicted in absentia. In addition, the suspects, whose identities are established, will be detained while crossing the demarcation line - at checkpoints the police carries out checks on passing persons according to operational databases of the National Police, - said the Donetsk region police chief Vyacheslav Abroskin.
