President Volodymyr Zelensky has confirmed that Ukraine agreed on the "Steinmeier formula". He said this at a briefing today.
"We replied to Mr. Sajdik's letter that we are agreeing on the text of the Steinmeier formula. It should be implemented in the law on "special status", which is not yet available", - Zelensky answered the corresponding question.
He explained what is embedded in the so-called "Steinmeier formula". "This is one or two proposals. That is all. The provisional law on the special order of local self-government in certain areas of the Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts, also known in society as the "law on the special status of Donbass", begins to operate on an ongoing basis, when the local elections will be held there in accordance with the Constitution of Ukraine and Ukrainian legislation, as well as after the publication of the OSCE report that the elections were held in accordance with the OSCE standards and international standards for democratic elections. This means that there will be no elections at gunpoint", - the Ukrainian president stated.
Zelensky also added that there will be a new law "on special status", which will be developed by the parliament. "There will be no surrender", - he assured the journalists.
"We are not talking about the structure of these elections, but we understand that in order for these elections to take place not at gunpoint, the border must be ours. The elections must be held according to our legislation. If there are any military there will be no elections", - the head of state emphasized once again.
Earlier, Russian media reported that the Ukrainian delegation in Minsk signed the so-called "Steinmeier formula" on Tuesday.
