Some Western politicians still offer Ukraine to make territorial concessions to russia, without taking into account the values of the Ukrainians themselves. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said this in a video message on May 25.
The President reacted, including to the statement of former U.S. Secretary of State Henry Kissinger.
"But all the same, in Davos, for example, Mr. Kissinger emerges from the deep past and says that, allegedly, it is necessary to give russia a piece of Ukraine. So that there would be no alienation of russia from Europe. It seems that Mr. Kissinger does not have 2022 on the calendar, but 1938, and he thought that he was speaking to the audience not in Davos, but in Munich of those days. By the way, in real 1938, when Mr. Kissinger's family was fleeing Nazi Germany, he was 15 years old, and he understood everything perfectly. And it was not heard from him at that time that it was necessary to adapt to the Nazis instead of escaping or fighting them", - Zelensky said.
The President noted that symptomatic editorials began to appear in some Western media that Ukraine must accept the so-called hard compromises, having given up territory in exchange for peace.
"Perhaps, the New York Times also wrote something similar in 1938. But now, I remind you, it is 2022. And for all these geopolitical reasons, those who advise Ukraine to give something to russia, the "great geopoliticians" always do not want to see ordinary people. Ordinary Ukrainians. Millions of those who, in fact, live in the territory that they offer to exchange for the illusion of peace. We should always see people. And remember that values are not just a word. That is why I pay such attention to international platforms, appeals to parliamentarians, to parliaments, to the peoples of other countries, communication with the expert community, with journalists and with students. We must do everything possible to create an established habit in the world - to take Ukraine into account. So that the interests of Ukrainians are not overlapped by the interests of those in a hurry to another meeting with the dictator", - Zelensky stressed.
